| ECOOP 2002 WITUML: Workshop on Integration and Transformation of UML models
Málaga, Spain, June 11th, 2002 |
Although UML is now a standard modelling language in widespread use in industry, its role in software engineering is still unclear in many respects. This workshop will attempt to define UML in terms of its relationship both to itself and to other languages/artifacts. Whilst this is clearly related to the question of what is the semantics of UML, the workshop will take a more pragmatic view and focus on transformations and integrations of UML models. Transformations are one of the key underlying technologies in Computer Science, and yet, to date, have not been exploited fully within the context of UML. Well-defined transformations both within and outside UML would facilitate advances in UML design methodologies, validation and verification, code generation and model maintenance. Transformations address UML relationships in terms of how they can be translated into each other. The question can also be answered in terms of how UML models can be combined or integrated - for example, how can OCL and sequence diagrams be used together? The workshop will concentrate on both transformation-based and integration-based approaches.
The aim of this workshop is to identify the most promising roles for model
transformation and integration in UML and to identify which transformations
and integration approaches are crucial for industry and why. Participation is
encouraged both from practitioners who could help identify current modelling
gaps that could be filled by transformations and integrations, and from researchers
who could suggest transformations, integrations and frameworks for implementing
them.
This is the second workshop on this theme. The first, WTUML01, was held as a satellite event to ETAPS2001. See http://ase.arc.nasa.gov/wtuml01
Phillipe Desfray (from SofTeam, France)
Title of the talk: "Using UML 2.0 profiles for supporting the MDA approach"
Participants are asked to write a short position paper (5 pages or less) on some aspect of transformations/integration of UML models. A non-exhaustive list of topics includes:
Submissions should be sent to ja@di.fct.unl.pt and
should be in either Word, PDF, Postscript or HTML.
The workshop will be split between presentations and discussion groups. The organizing committee will review and select the most relevant papers to be presented at the workshop to spark discussion. Afterwards, focussed discussions will take place that aim to answer key questions that will be identified from the workshop submissions and circulated to the participants prior to the workshop. This is a one-day workshop.
The accepted position papers will be published online at the website of the
workshop. In addition, the results of the workshop will be summarised in a workshop
report to be published in the ECOOP Workshop Reader in Lecture
Notes in Computer Science.
The workshop will take place in Málaga (Spain). Information about the workshop location and registration can be found on the web page of ECOOP 2002 (http://www.ecoop2002.lcc.uma.es/)
