Carlos Alves
Carlos Alves joined OutSystems in 2001 as Director of Engineering to head the newly formed Engineering Team. Mr. Alves developed the overall Engineering strategy and operation, from Product Development to Technical Support.
Prior to joining OutSystems, Mr. Alves was R&D Manager at Altitude Software, Vertical Solutions division. Before Altitude, Mr. Alves worked as IT Customer Care Specialist at OniTelecom, one of the first telecommunications companies to emerge in the fixed telecommunications market in Portugal, delivering mass-market voice, data, Internet and wireless products.
Carlos Alves holds a degree in Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal.
Luís Moniz Pereira
Luís Moniz Pereira is a Full Professor of Computer Science at Departamento de Informática, UNL, since 1985, and the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Centre (CENTRIA) at UNL. He was ellected Fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence in 2001 and is the Founding President of the Portuguese AI association (APPIA).
He coordinates the distributed European Computational Logic MSc. at UNL, supported by Erasmus Mundus, as well as several international research projects.
His excelence as a researcher has been recognized on several occasions, both nationally and internationally, through scientific awards including, among others: "Honoris Causa Doctor Rerum Naturalium", from T.U. Dresden (2006), "Prémio Estímulo à Excelência" (2005) and "Prémio da Boa Esperança" (1994), both from the Portuguese Government, and "Prémio de Ciência e Tecnologia" (1984), from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Luís Moniz Pereira holds a PhD in Cybernetics, from Brunel University, London, 1974. He has published over 230 papers in international journals, book chapters, and conferences. He also wrote two books and edited 10 conference proceedings. His upcoming book is "A Máquina Iluminada – Ciências Cognitivas e Computação", to be published by ASA, early in 2007.
Professor Moniz Pereira's current research interests include Cognitive Science, Knowledge Representation, Computational Reasoning, Rational Agents, Logic Programming, and Semantic Web (He's currently vice-president of the European Association for Semantic web Education – EASE.).
